I don't really see how it's any different from Facebook status updates, and I only write those if I've got something vaguely interesting to say - I'm not a big one for 'Jacq is on the train and heading to work'-style updates. And Facebook has the added benefits of sharing photos and tracking down old friends. Twitter seems a bit random to me. Yeah, I don’t get the Twitter thing at all.
